This year we went easy on the grade 8 kids from Lakeview School. Being that this school decided not to start in August, we pushed the restoration educational date to Sept 9th. Even without the help of the youth rangers, we were able to do a stream cleanup, build wing deflectors in the creek by hauling heavy rock down the hill, and plant over 50 trees along the shoreline. Generally at the time, the kids are not real fond of the work, however, this lifetime opportunity to participate in healing their own creek will be remembered for years to come. The grade 8 teacher had each student email our organization to say what they liked best about the day, and many positive comments were received. Many thanks to the kids and Connie for a job well done! |
