M'Chigeeng Youth Warriors with Jesse

Thursday February 8th 2018: M'Chigeeng Youth Warriors: For this week's social, the kids visited M'Chigeeng local elder, Leo Bebonang on his trap line where he demonstrated how to set rabbit snares and little tricks to the trade that would lead to a higher chance of a successful harvest. The Young Warriors got the opportunity to set their own snares along Leo's trapline and identify snowshoe hare trails. They returned to Leo's place to play a new game called Deer's Ears, and finished the social with a meal of deer stew and homemade scone!

Students at Assiginack Public School are raising brook trout from the egg stage to small fry and are going to be releasing them into Norton's Creek. This is a great educational tool for the students to learn about the various developmental life stages of brook trout. They also become class scientists by helping to monitor the water temperature, pH, oxygen levels and water clarity. Great job everyone!

Youth Warriors Group

This week, the M'Chigeeng Youth Warriors met at the Youth Centre in M'Chigeeng for their weekly session. The social was opened with a smudging ceremony followed by some ice breaker games. The Young Warriors learned about where their produce comes from (Carbon footprint in relation to transportation distance), how to identify organic produce from non-organic sources, how sugar content varies in similar products and how to read labels when making healthier decisions. We also started planning for our vision boards for goal setting in 2018! Thank you Jesse Beaudin from our streams team for assisting in overseeing this youth incentive!
