| It's always a pleasure to introduce the kids to the beauty of aquatic life, especially in this restored creek off of Bidwell in Manitowaning. Norton's Creek is, of course, dear to our hearts being the vision Bob Hutton had many years ago prior to work commencing. These grandkids of a local cottager from Sudbury came for a visit and decided to have some "Eco fun" with us. They were very excited to take part and are definitely future stewards of the water. |

A beautiful day was spent educating families at Batman's beach day on Saturday July 29. We brought in a variety of invertebrates borrowed from our healthy restored Norton's Creek to show the variety of life flourishing in a restored ecosystem, promoting increased fish populations. The kids also learned of invasive species now spreading across our lakes and prevention. We are very pleased to see such enthusiasm from all ages. Thanks to Batman's for including us in on this very busy, gorgeous vacation getaway!
Manitoulin Streams was very happy to attend the Gore Bay Harbour Days event this last Saturday. Jesse was very busy educating on stream restoration and recent beetle releases that took place in this town. Gore Bay hosts this yearly event that has turned into a fun hotspot that entertains many tourists and locals. Way to go Gore Bay!
Jesse Beaudin of Manitoulin Streams took part in M’Chigeeng’s Youth Rods and Reels Event in July. Constable Murray attended and demonstrated safe fishing techniques and how to assemble a new Rod. The kids learned how to properly set bait, tie knots, cast their rod, the different types of fish, and how to fish responsibly while keeping a healthy river eco-system. An amazing program and well received, a big Miigwech to Constable Murray and all volunteers!
We would like to introduce Angela Kuttemperoor to our team. She is our OFAH Invasive Species Awareness Liaison. Please visit her booth if you see her at local community events. She has lots of information about preventing invasive species from being transferred onto Manitoulin Island. Welcome Angela!
