2017 Project Sites
Grimesthorpe creek

This year we have worked with landowner Paul Dawson to secure part of Grimesthorpe River that flows through his acreage. Paul has cattle on this property and has assisted in repairing and protecting part of his stream. To date we have installed the following;
-112cm of vegetated riverstone -7 root wads -750m2 of coir matting -1665m2 of seed mix -487 shrubs planted -500sm3 of spoil pile removal -300 native shrubs and trees planted by Central Manitoulin Public School |
Mindemoya river
Providence Bay: Sites MIN 662-664
This year we worked again with landowner Jamie McDermid and managed to clear large log jams from the site prior to restoration. Jamie was kind enough to allow a school group to come help plant trees. We want to thank all volunteers that showed and Jamie for his volunteer time.

Kagawong river
Kagawong: Sites 160,169,170
In 2015 these sites underwent restoration. Due to many falling trees, huge log jams created water flow interruption and needed removal. This year, our staff along with two Sudbury youth ranger crews were able to remove these jams and remedy water flow damage and unblock salmon fall passage.
M'chigeeng creek
This year we continued to enhance this creek with the Lakeview Public School grade 8 class and two Sudbury Youth Ranger groups. Thank you to all volunteers that attended on both rainy days!

Smith's Bay creek
This year we assisted Wiikwemkoong in starting stream restorations. We had a community garbage cleanup and a tree plant to help secure the shoreline. A big thank you to Pontiac School, Wiikwemkong Highschool, Wiikwemkoong Land & Resources and Wiikwemkoong Tourism for helping out with the tree plant. Invertebrate sampling from Laurention University has taken place as part of a pre restoration.
