Manitoulin Streams was honoured to be a part of and donation recipient of the 2nd Annual Memorial Fishing Derby put on by Ken Niles at the Providence Bay Marina.

Last year, this derby was held in honour of Hoey McDermid.  This year Bob Paquet was remembered as many local and visiting anglers hit the water in hopes of finding the big winner.

Ken presented the cash winnings of 10% of the intake from the derby to Manitoulin Streams on the closing day of the derby, Sunday August 25th.  We want to thank Ken Niles for his generous donation, hard work and ongoing support of our efforts!

On August 16, 2013, Manitoulin Streams Improvement Association will be in Providence Bay to help plant trees and shrubs along the riparian area of their stream restoration pr0ject MIN 900-902 as part of the community environmental initiative supported by Walmart-Evergreen Green Grants program.

Walmart – Evergreen Green Grants

Construction has begun on the Mindemoya River at Site MIN 900-902 near the mouth of the River.  We are beginning the placement of the rock into the river to create a cross vane and “j” hooks to direct the flow into the middle of the river, create pools, scour the sediment that has built up and expose the spawning gravel underneath.  It will also prevent shoreline bank erosion.  A community volunteer tree planting event was conducted at the site as well.
