The grade 8’s from Little Current Public School had a blast on this lovely fall day touring Kagawong. Many salmon were still heading upstream to spawn and a variety of invertebrates were found along the river. Their teacher thought ahead to seek out info on our website and form a questionnaire for the kids to answer along the way. Many of the kids were very inquisitive as to the goings on in Kagawong, and lengthy discussions took place on the restoration work completed (and to come), the spawning salmon, aquatic life and the engineering behind creating a better natural habitat. If this group has anything to do with the future care of aquatic habitat on the island, we will be in good hands.
Great job to all the students that attended, and the volunteers. A special thank you to Liam Campbell for tagging along, even though on a small break from being back to school, Liam ensured to educate the kids on wild parsnip and other dangerous plants near our watersheds. And of course, a Kagawong trip would not be complete without a visit to the Chocolate Store!
