Thanks to Blue Jay Creek Hatchery for volunteering their time to give a tour indoors!
On Thursday June 11th Sue and Nathan entertained 40 children grades 1 to 3 from Assiginack Public School. This large group was split into 3 groups and between touring the hatchery, playing a predator game and touring the rehabilitated stream site, these children left exhausted and happy.

It was a busy weekend for Manitoulin Streams with the Manitoulin Trade Fair and helping out the Manitoulin Nature Club with a BioBlitz in Misery Bay Provincial Park. It was great to see 68 people showing up for this event. We focussed on finding amphibians, snakes and reptiles however with so many volunteers that were specialists in identifying various birds, insects, invertebrates, plants etc. we were able to gather even more information for Misery Bay Provincial Park.
Thank you to Nancy and David Kains for all their hard work putting this together as well as John Diebolt, Gaynor Orford, Ryan Gardner, the leaders for each of the volunteer groups, the staff from Ontario Nature and all the volunteers that came out and made this a huge success. Preliminary results are as follows: Plants-91 species Birds-57 species Insects-6 species Amphibians-6 species Reptiles- 5 species Fungus- 5 species A Great weekend at the Manitoulin Trade Fair. Our booth in partnership with the Little Current Fish and Game Club and the Manitoulin Area Stewardship Council won Best Booth at the Fair! Hundreds of people stopped by to learn much about stream rehabilitation, tree planing, invasive species and much more. Ticket sales were up for our 2015 Raffle.
Thanks to Ken Pearce, Ted Williamson, Paul Moffatt, Therese Trainor and Les & Delmer Fields for volunteering their time to work the booth. A great time had by all! Another big thanks to Delmer for putting together beautiful birdhouses raising money for spawning gravel towards our work. |
