A number of schools across Manitoulin Island now have established micro-hatchery programs. In partnership with Manitoulin Streams, Rolly Frapier of Micro-Hatcheries Inc. helps set-up and teach Manitoulin youth how to grow their own Brook Trout. Once the fish raised at the Little Current Public School were old enough we went to the Sheguiandah First Nation to release the Brook Trout into the creek. |

Little Current Fish and Game Club and Manitoulin Streams restarted our annual Bass Lake Creek Educational Tours which bring students from across Manitoulin Island out to participate. COVID prevented this event from happening for two years but this year C.C. McLean, LCPS, Assiginack and Central Manitoulin came out. Lots of excitement!!!! As one student said...."Best field trip ever!!!"
The highlights of this trip are that the children get to learn about the micro-hatchery process and get an up close and personal view of the Walleye egg and milt harvesting process. |
