For this competition we're looking for the most dedicated individual to the Garbage Cleanup Event. Every day that you post a photo of yourself removing garbage will be added up and whoever picked up garbage on the most days during the event takes home the prize! Remember to include the hashtags, the number of participants, number of bags collected, the majority garbage type and have fun! The event starts April 18!

Cleanup competitions! It's coming fast so I hope you're all ready to get outside and get some exercise while cleaning our Island! For this competition the biggest age range between participants in a photo wins!! Remember to include the hashtags, the number of participants, number of bags collected, the majority garbage type and have fun! The event starts April 18!  It's almost that time of season when anglers head out for the annual smelt run in order to catch a feast for the family. This is a reminder that Rainbow Smelt are an invasive species so never use live or dead smelts as bait in Ontario lakes, rivers or streams. Check the regulations as to what can be used. When cleaning rainbow smelt, be careful not to dump entrails into a lake or river. Fertilized rainbow smelt eggs can easily invade new waters and they can drastically impact the fishery. Check out FMZ10 Council in our region to see how they are trying to protect our waters from Rainbow Smelt!  Here is one of our fun categories for people to win prizes! The goal is to find, remove and take a picture of what you consider to be "weird" garbage and post it to our site or the Manitoulin Island Garbage Cleanup event page.
