This expansive corner bend restoration site had considerable erosion due to the severity of the slope with very sandy soil, little to no trees, and a lack of buffer. The eroding bank was causing major sedimentation during the spring and any rain events. 

Restoration focused on grading the bank to a more gentle slope, adding a rip rap buffer against the flow, improving in-stream spawning and habitat, and then replanting to prevent future erosion.

SC reach 1

Reach 1 on Sucker Creek suffers from bank instability, a variable creek mouth, and lack of in stream and spawning habitat. Additionally, it has variable water levels.

To combat these issues we will be installing various pools and step pools, creating riffles, and regrading the mouth of the creek. The banks will also be graded back so the slope is not as steep. Rip rap will be added along where the water flows to provide additional stability and the banks will be replanted with native shrubs and tree species.
