grimesthorpe creek S14

Manitoulin Streams staff planted trees and shrubs sourced from JD's Garden Centre, Verbinnen's Nursery, and additional vegetation from the Manitoulin Streams nursery along Grimesthorpe Creek. This effort aims to establish a healthy riparian zone along this vital brook trout habitat, keeping the water cool and mitigating climate change impacts. Livestock access to this stretch has been restricted with fencing and a designated water crossing to support rotational grazing and crop production.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the Nolands for partnering with us, as well as to the following funders for their support: the Government of Canada: Environment and Climate Change Canada - Environmental Damages Fund, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters - Community Conservation Fund, Manitoulin Transport, and all those who have generously donated to Manitoulin Streams Initiatives!

Grimesthorpe Creek S19

Manitoulin Streams staff have planted a variety of trees and shrubs provided by JD's Garden Centre, Verbinnen's Nursery, and the Manitoulin Streams nursery along the banks of Grimesthorpe Creek. This project aims to enhance the riparian zone of this crucial brook trout stream, ensuring cooler water temperatures and reducing the effects of climate change. Livestock access in the area has been limited with the installation of fencing and a designated water crossing to support sustainable rotational grazing and crop management.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Paul Dawson for collaborating with us on this project. We also thank our funders, including the Government of Canada: Environment and Climate Change Canada - EcoAction, the Ontario Community Environment Fund, Manitoulin Transport, and all the generous supporters of Manitoulin Streams Initiatives!

Wikwemikoong Shoreline and Angling Platform
Restoration work along the Wiikwemkoong waterfront focused on stabilizing the shoreline and enhancing aquatic habitats. In-water structures were added to support juvenile and spawning fish, promoting a healthier ecosystem as well as an Agling and Fish Viewing Platform. This important project was made possible through funding from FedNor, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), and the Doug Smith Foundation. A sincere thank you to the Wiikwemkoong Unceded First Nation for their invaluable partnership in making this initiative a success!
