Dredged the mouth of the Mindemoya River with the help of the Municipality of Central Manitoulin this morning so that migrating salmon could make it upstream to spawn. We’ve heard lots of positive comments this year about the fishery improving by doing this over the past 4 years. A sand bar builds up blocking access due to wave action and it causes a trickle of water from the river (2-3 inches) over the sand for the salmon to try to cross. This was causing salmon to become beached on the sand. The dredging seems to be working!
